Sun exposure associated with lower risk of inflammatory bowel disease in children

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic condition that causes intermittent abdominal pain, diarrhea, and many other problems. It is not clear how common this is in Africa but the general sense is that it is not as common as it is in western countries. Could this be partly because of more exposure to sunshine in Africa? In Australia, children exposed to sunshine were found to have a lower risk of developing IBD. The biological processes that underly this observation is not clear for now. In any case, a bit of sun exposure every day or at least most days of the week is again shown to be a good thing. Africa has an abundance of this gift of nature.
