This should not be surprising. The researchers show that a simple box is a good example of a generic object that leads to highly imaginative play. The child can turn the box sideways, up, or down, or even squash it and make an endless list of things. How about a quick crawl into the box or build a "house" with the box? The opportunities for play go on and on. Such activities promote problem solving and socialization, they noted. Can one expect the same versatility from all toys? Will a very expensive toy always deliver the same imaginative play? Perhaps not.
